Dr. Sawyer is a counseling psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology at Grand Valley State University. He completed his clinical training at college counseling centers in New York City and Albany, New York. His research interests include grief literacy, psychological experiences related to grief, and college student mental health. Outside of research and teaching, he enjoys golfing, fly fishing, watching Detroit’s professional sports teams, and going on adventures with his wife and dog.

Lab Manager: Rachel Kamps
Rachel is a Junior at Grand Valley State University studying Psychology and Philosophy. Her research interests include generational trauma, LGBT+ young adults, and spiritual abuse. She enjoys spending her personal time watching films, reading mysteries, collecting vinyls, and taking barre classes.

Research Assistant: Jessica Onasanwo
Jessica is an undergraduate student at Grand Valley State University. She is currently double-majoring in Biomedical Sciences and Behavioral Neuroscience. She has an avid interest in educational research, particularly in the field of psychology and all aspects related to the brain and human emotions in everyday life. Outside academics, Jessica is a dancer/dance teacher and singer. She also enjoys swimming and being overall spontaneous (provided the activity doesn’t shorten her life span).
